Initiatives

There are three sections which are the result of the longstanding commitment of DPZ to research. They are the Initiatives completed, Initiatives in Process and Tools. Bear in mind, that both general and specific learning is done through the CNU, including the New Urbanist Bibliography and the process of CNU certification. Much of this research is the result of the not-for-profit Center of Applied Transect Studies (CATS), begun and staffed by DPZ. This research, together with a full commitment to CoDESIGN is the essence of DPZ and we believe what maintains our edge.

The principles of the New Urbanism have been translated by very many experts into Initiatives. They’re available on the website of the CNU (schools, affordable housing) and via other New Urbanist practitioners. DPZ’s research component (CATS) has yielded several initiatives which are now completed and available. All of them are deeply embedded in the issues of the 21st Century. The intention is to share these with others in real-time, if possible. This is very much in the spirit of the collective endeavor which is an integral part of the CNU. These are the principal ones.
